Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor: $210k for Life

You're getting dressed for another day at work, and suddenly the phone rings.  You pick it up, and the person says,

I’ve got a job for you. It pays about $210,000 per year. If you take the position, you can work as long as you choose, and unless you really act crazy, we won’t even consider firing you. What do you say?

Well, apparently someone said “Yes!” Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, everyone is talking about the new Supreme Court appointee. Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s appointment to the Supreme Court to replace Justice David Souter, probably received a call similar to the one above recently.

Although I covered the Supreme Court in the requisite high school civics/government class, I still had to refresh my memory on the requirements and characteristics for a person in the position. If you don’t remember the specifics, it never hurts to know information about the U.S. Constitution.

How would you like to work in a job like the one mentioned in the opening paragraph? Go ahead and re-read it (I’ll wait). The job is lifelong with $200,000+ guaranteed per year. I can honestly say that I don’t know if I would like it. There are so many different working environments and experiences that await us in our working lives, and sticking to a single one for years (some people work as a justice until they die) doesn’t appeal to me.

Sure, in the short term it would be a sweet gig, and those judges with a long resume would love to top it off with a stint as a Supreme Court justice. However, with your schedule planned out months in advance, there is little flexibility for pursuing work that is meaningful. Maybe I’m young and naïve, and maybe I actually have a point.

Then again, maybe I’m just completely nuts (wouldn’t be the first time). What do you think? Drop us a comment below or hit us up on Twitter (Ben or Andrew). We’d love to hear from you!

Ben - I guess the main reason to accept the opportunity would be if you thought it WAS meaningful! Think about it - as a judge, to have a chance to review the most important cases in the country? To decide important matters...I would guess that anyone up for the job would consider it meaningful work!

As to staying in one job for the rest of one's life - I imagine there are pros and cons. Some days, though, there is nothing like job security, and I don't know many other jobs that offer it!
Unless one is delusional, Sotomayer is a racist, pure & simple, as are all members of the treasonous La Raza by definition- since their motto is “For our race everything- for others, nothing”.

Her record is nothing to shout about either, and frankly -if you’ve heard her speak- she’s not what you’d call a towering intellectual.

Eric Holder has some racial hangups and agenda too, calling us “cowards” regarding racial issues and letting-off Black Panthers who stood in front of a polling place with nightsticks.

And Obama himself has shown us a puzzling pro-Kenyan grudge against the British and has said some pretty odd things, even regarding his own grandmother… plus he's the one who nominated all these kooks in the first place.

Whatever happened to the idea of a colorblind society? Team Obama define their world in racial terms all the time- and unlike any white people I know. I wouldn't want to be judged by any of them after what I’ve heard come out of their own mouths- they sound like Jesse Jackson.

If Obama is going to go on with his "justice" agenda largely based upon race- the double standards need to stop… and NOW
