An office should be a place of pride, a showcase of the machine and how it works. If a workplace looks messy and disordered it says a lot about the state of affairs at the company. So, have you ever walked into your own office that you work at to think what a tip it is and perhaps how much nicer it would do if someone took a little bit of time to do a few specific things? Well, you can be that person – an office superhero; fighting grime and helping out everyone – resulting in smiles all round. Here are a few things you can do to kick start a healthy office mental attitude; if you start chipping in, others will follow you no doubt.
Wires, wires, wires; the bane of any office. In many offices through the world you can’t step foot in an office without being offended by these banded black, white, red and yellow snakes that seem to snake around the office. There’s no other way of saying it; wires look messy. So…why not fix this? All it takes is a couple of hours before everyone saunters into the office looking half asleep on a Monday morning, go in early and grab a couple of cable ties & wire holders. Do this successfully and the whole office will look as if you’ve hired an interior designer to come and do some create some minimalist feng shui in your working area. Just think of the brownie points you’ll get with the co-workers; and if you’re lucky they might even bake you some brownies. Win-win.
Enforce Recycling & Going Green
A healthy minded office lays the path for healthy ideas. Going green is more than just a buzzword on many people’s lips at the moment – with many people getting stuck in. So, if your office is failing to go green on account of laziness and ignorance; go above them and do it yourself. Make sure the recycling bins are emptied frequently so people do not have to throw things in incorrect bins to save time. Also, have a meeting with your manager to try and make people less dependent on using print outs – perhaps even draw up a plan as to when you’d like to eliminate all paper print outs completely; it’s not a crazy thing to ask in this day and age. Make sure your office energy is green energy; make sure you have a power-saving plan and energy saving lights. Helping people to wise up to green is a noble cause for an office hero.
Create a friendly social atmosphere
It is proven that an office with has many positive social relationships within it is more efficient than one that’s not. If you want to help your company and your comrades, why not start a social planner? Get everyone involved in a few things they can do; the more creative you can be, the better. Also, why not leave a joke on your co-workers desk before they enter in the morning, and see a smile emerge on their face as they wake up. It’s the small things sometimes that count in a massive corporation.
Be spunky and creative
Everyone loves food, especially cakes. Why not have a look online for little edible treats which everyone can snack on. Pop along with some cake pops, or whip up a batch of fine cookies or muffins for everyone to indulge in. Chocolate is a great way to warm people’s hearts, so why not get baking and be the office hero for the day.
