Creating Real Work-Life Balance

Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from. Seth Godin

Most people enjoy their holidays from work, but what about life in between? As the quote above indicates, if we are grinning and bearing our lives till the next holiday, we may need to make some changes to the way we are living. Work-life balance is a term that is used a lot these days, but how do we create real balance in our lives? How do we create a life we don’t need to escape from?

Spend Less

Whatever your job and pay is, I recommend good money management and saving some of your income. So many people fritter away their money on unnecessary things, which are in fact keeping them trapped in a life they don’t really enjoy. Of course, what is unnecessary is different from one person to the next, but what is necessary, is usually quite flexible. When you know exactly where all your money is going, you will feel more empowered. Not living paycheck to paycheck will give you more control over your whole life.

Also, often, we are spending more money than we realize just to do our job! What could you change about costs associated with your work?

Find Work You Love

Yes, this advice is bandied around a lot these days, but ultimately if you are not doing work you (at least mostly) enjoy, of course you will feel the need to escape. My advice in this area is not to give up and to keep trying new things and being active in your search for work you love. I finally took the plunge to change careers a few years ago and most of the time now, my work is a joy and something I don’t want to escape from anymore.

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. Confucius

It isn’t always easy working out what will pay the bills and light you up, but there are plenty of resources out there to help you along the way.  You can always find an Online Trading Academy and go back to school too!

Be Prepared For Change

Our society is still very much set up around consumerism and working full time. There is nothing wrong with that per se, but this system doesn’t always make it easy to live a life you don’t want to escape from. Making a change to that template can be difficult and even scary at times; however the benefits that come from following your own path and enjoying each day are huge.
