Get That Promotion: Identify Your Boss' Pet Peeves

Tired of your job? Do you feel that you deserve something better? Ever perceived yourself in a higher office? Have you ever imagined yourself as the boss? Have you lost your patience with your current designation? Well, based on experience, the common employee often asks these questions to himself. Whether its lack of confidence or knowledge, most of them fail to achieve their career goals in time or if they do, it’s way behind schedule. The thing is, the boss always has the power to give you that sweet raise or promotion you’ve been longing for a long time yet it seems that he just won’t give it to you.

According to a survey conducted by an HR department in a prestigious company, 39% of their employees feel that they are not achieving success because of slow career growth. They also stated that they feel under ranked for their age and experience. Well to be honest, the secret to a fast growing career is by identifying your boss’ pet peeves. Seriously, finding out what he or she hates the most will propel you up the ranking board. Here are some things that most bosses hate:

Tardiness

Father time is indeed not on your side. Tardiness denotes laziness and laziness denotes lack of commitment. It’s not that you don’t like the company, it’s just that you seem like you can’t give an extra effort for the company.

Insubordination

Of course, like any other boss, your boss would be furious if you don’t follow him or her. Trust me most bosses give out orders for a reason and most of the time, its for the good of your company. Following a few simple instructions won’t hurt. Do them with a smile.

Inefficiency

Being inefficient at work clearly catches your boss’ pet peeve eye. An employee becomes inefficient when he fails to follow company rules and regulations. Being effective is not enough for your boss’ eye, you have to be efficient at work as well. Try to follow every inch of the company handbook.

Ineffectivity

Perhaps one of the most hated peeves of bosses, ineffectivity can eventually pull you out of the promotion list. Why? Because you are not doing enough effort to produce results for your company, and that is considered a major setback.

Dishonesty

Another irritating trait a boss hates is lying. Not telling the truth not only harms you, but also harms your company as well. Your lies will do greater damage in the long run because no matter what happens, your boss will find out about it, one way or another. Remember, honesty is the best policy.

Gossiping

A gossip, no matter how true it is still considered a harmful thing in the workplace. Not only does it denotes invasion of privacy, but also denotes nosiness as well. Bosses hate nosy employees. They tend to see them as workers who don’t know their proper place. So whenever you learn about something without any proof, shut your mouth and just do your job.

Getting a promotion is easy as long as you know what things to avoid. They may look easy to avoid but remember, discipline and determination are hard weights to lift.
